Planting Knock Out® Roses
Choose a location with full sun (at least 6-8 hours a day) and well-draining soil. Space plants 3-4 feet apart to ensure good air circulation.
- Dig a hole slightly larger than the root ball.
- Mix in compost with the native soil.
- Place the rose in the hole so that the graft union is at soil level.
- Backfill the hole, water thoroughly, and add mulch to conserve moisture.
Care and Maintenance
Water regularly, aiming for about 1 inch per week. During hot or dry periods, water more frequently.
- Apply a balanced fertilizer designed for roses in early spring and again in midsummer.
- Prune in late winter or early spring, removing dead or damaged wood and shaping the plant.
- Deadhead spent blooms to encourage more flowers.
- Monitor for pests and diseases, and treat as necessary with appropriate fungicides or insecticides.
Fertilization
Use a slow-release fertilizer formulated for roses. Follow the instructions on the label for application rates and timing.
Pollination
Knock Out® Roses are self-cleaning and don't require deadheading for continued blooming. They are generally self-pollinating, but attracting pollinators like bees can help increase bloom production.
Harvesting
While these roses are not typically grown for cutting, you can snip off blooms to enjoy indoors. Cut in the early morning, choosing buds that are just starting to open.
