Lemon Cypress in a Red Holiday Pot: Care Instructions
Lemon cypress likes bright light, consistent moisture, and good drainage.
- Light: Place in a bright location with at least 6 hours of sunlight. Indoors, use the sunniest window available.
- Watering: Check the soil 2–3 times per week. Water thoroughly when the top 1 inch of soil feels dry. If the decorative pot has no drainage, remove the nursery pot to water, let excess water drain completely (5–10 minutes), then place it back. Never let the plant sit in standing water.
- Temperature: Keep between 55–70°F. Avoid heating vents, fireplaces, and cold drafts.
- Humidity: Average indoor humidity is usually fine, but if the air is very dry, place the pot on a pebble tray with water below the pot.
- Fertilizer: Do not fertilize during winter. Feed with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer or half-strength liquid fertilizer in spring and summer.
- Pruning: Remove dead or brown tips as needed. Avoid cutting into old, brown wood because it may not regrow.
- Outdoors: If your climate is suitable, gradually acclimate it to outdoor conditions after the holidays and plant it in full sun with well-drained soil.
Container Care
If you keep it in a patio container, use a pot with drainage holes and a quality potting mix. Water more often during hot weather, but always allow excess water to drain. Repot into a slightly larger container when roots begin circling the pot.
