How to Plant Gladiolus Bulbs

Planting Instructions

• Timing: Plant bulbs in spring after the last frost, when soil temperatures are at least 60°F.
• Location: Choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Gladiolus do not tolerate soggy conditions.
• Preparation: Loosen soil to a depth of 12 inches. Mix in compost or well-rotted manure to improve drainage and fertility.
• Spacing: Plant bulbs (corms) 4–6 inches apart, in rows or clusters for the best visual effect.
• Depth: Dig a hole 4-6 inches deep and place the bulb with the pointed side up. Cover with soil and gently press down.

Watering

• Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil.
• Keep the soil evenly moist during the growing season, but avoid waterlogging.

Fertilizing

• Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer (10-10-10) when planting.
• Feed again when flower spikes emerge for larger blooms.

Care and Maintenance

• Stake the plants if they grow tall and start to lean.
• Deadhead spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering.
• In colder climates, dig up bulbs after the first frost, dry them, and store them in a cool, dry place until spring.

  Nope! One of the biggest perks of Glaminis is their compact height—just 24–26 inches tall. That means they’re sturdy enough to stand on their own, even in breezy spots, no stakes required.
• 2. Can I grow Glamini® Gladiolus in containers?
  Absolutely. These are container superstars. Their shorter stature makes them ideal for patios, balconies, or anywhere you need a bright burst of color in a small space. Just make sure the container has good drainage and gets plenty of sun.
• 3. When and how should I plant the bulbs for the longest bloom season?
  Plant Glamini® bulbs in full sun once the danger of frost has passed. For continuous blooms, stagger your planting every two weeks. That keeps the fireworks show going well into summer.
• 4. Will deer or other critters eat my Glaminis?
  Deer typically give Glaminis the cold shoulder, which means you’re more likely to enjoy the blooms yourself. While no plant is 100% critter-proof, these tend to be lower on the wildlife menu.
• 5. Do I need to dig up the bulbs after blooming?
  If you live in a region with cold winters (zones below 7), it's best to lift and store the bulbs after the foliage dies back. In warmer zones (7 and up), you can leave them in the ground to rest and return next season.
