Planting (Indoor or Patio Container)
- Choose a pot with drainage holes, 1–2 inches wider than the root ball.
- Use well-draining soil.
- Place plant so top of root ball sits level with soil surface—don’t bury trunk.
- Backfill soil, press gently to remove air pockets.
- Water deeply until water drains out the bottom.
Light & Placement
- Bright, indirect light is ideal; can handle some morning sun.
- Avoid low light—causes leaf drop.
- Keep away from drafts and vents.
Watering (critical)
- Water when top 2 inches of soil are dry.
- Water slowly and thoroughly until excess drains out.
- Empty saucer—never let roots sit in water.
- In winter, reduce frequency but don’t let soil fully dry out.
Fertilizing
- Feed monthly in spring/summer with balanced liquid fertilizer (½ strength).
- No fertilizer in fall/winter.
Maintenance
- Wipe leaves to remove dust (improves photosynthesis).
- Rotate plant every 2 weeks for even growth.
- Prune dead or leggy growth anytime.
Common Issues
- Leaf drop: usually from overwatering or low light.
- Yellow leaves: overwatering.
- Brown edges: underwatering or dry air.
Tip: For patios, keep in shade-to-bright light and bring indoors if temps drop below 55°F.
