Ficus Altissima Planting & Care
Planting (In Ground or Pot):
- Choose bright, indirect light (indoors) or partial sun (outdoors in warm climates).
- Use well-draining soil: mix potting soil + perlite or sand (2:1 ratio).
- Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, same depth.
- Place plant so top of root ball is level with soil surface.
- Backfill gently, firm soil, and water thoroughly.
Container Planting:
- Use a pot with drainage holes (start 1–2 sizes larger than root ball).
- Add a drainage layer if needed (small stones optional).
- Repot every 1–2 years as roots fill the container.
Watering:
- Water deeply after planting until water drains out.
- Then water when top 1–2 inches of soil are dry.
- Avoid soggy soil—roots are prone to rot.
- In winter, reduce watering frequency.
Fertilizing:
- Feed monthly in spring/summer with balanced liquid fertilizer.
- Stop feeding in fall/winter.
Light & Temperature:
- Bright, indirect light is ideal; avoid harsh midday sun indoors.
- Keep above 60°F (16°C); protect from drafts.
Maintenance:
- Prune to shape and control size.
- Wipe leaves to remove dust and improve photosynthesis.
- Watch for pests (spider mites, scale); treat early with neem oil.
Note: Not grown for harvest; this is an ornamental plant.
