Czechmark Trilogy® Weigela
Planting: Plant in full sun (6+ hours daily) for the best flowering, though it tolerates light shade. Choose well-drained soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and no deeper than its height. Set the top of the root ball level with the surrounding soil, backfill, and gently firm the soil. Water thoroughly to eliminate air pockets. Apply 2–3 inches of mulch around the plant, keeping it a few inches away from the stems.
Watering: Water deeply immediately after planting. For the first 2 weeks, water every 2–3 days if there is no significant rain. For the next 2–3 months, water deeply once or twice a week, allowing the top few inches of soil to dry slightly between waterings. Once established, water during extended dry periods.
- Fertilizer: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring before new growth begins. Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can reduce blooms.
- Pruning: Prune immediately after flowering to shape the shrub or remove dead or damaged branches. Since it blooms on old wood, avoid heavy pruning in late summer or fall.
- Pollination: The pink, white, and red flowers attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. No second plant is needed for flowering.
- Harvesting: No harvest is required; this is an ornamental shrub grown for its colorful blooms.
Container planting: Grow in a pot at least 18–24 inches wide with drainage holes. Use a quality potting mix, place in full sun, and water whenever the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry. Container plants dry out faster than those in the ground and may need winter protection in colder climates.
