Black Hero tulip bulbs are planted in fall for blooms the following spring. Unpack them as soon as they arrive and store them in a cool, dry, dark spot until you're ready to plant.

Planting

1. Pick your timing. Plant in fall, roughly 4-6 weeks before your ground freezes, so bulbs get the cold period they need.

• In containers. Move pots to an unheated garage or sheltered spot so the mix chills but doesn't freeze solid.
