Planting Autumn Blaze® Red Maple Tree
- Choose a suitable location: Select a spot with full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil.
- Prepare the planting hole: Dig a hole as deep as the root ball and three times as wide.
- Remove the tree from the container: Gently take the tree out and inspect the roots. If they are circling, gently tease them apart.
- Position the tree: Place the tree in the center of the hole, ensuring it's standing straight.
- Backfill the hole: Mix some compost with the removed soil and fill the hole halfway, then water it. After the water drains, fill the rest of the hole and water again.
- Mulch: Apply a 2-3 inch layer of mulch around the base of the tree, keeping it away from the trunk to prevent rot.
Care and Maintenance
- Watering: Water deeply once a week during the first growing season to establish roots. Reduce frequency as the tree matures.
- Fertilization: Fertilize in early spring with a balanced slow-release fertilizer before new growth begins.
- Pruning: Prune during dormancy in late winter to remove any dead or crossing branches and to shape the tree.
- Pest and Disease Management: Monitor for common pests and diseases and treat as necessary with appropriate fungicides or insecticides.
Remember, the Autumn Blaze® Red Maple is a hardy tree but still benefits from proper care. Monitor its growth and adjust your care routine as needed. Happy planting!
