Adagio Maiden Grass Planting & Care
Light: Full to part sun for best growth and plume production.
Soil: Plant in average, moist, well-drained loamy soil. Avoid soggy areas.
How to Plant
- Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and about the same depth.
- Loosen surrounding soil so roots can spread easily.
- Place the plant so the top of the root ball sits level with the soil surface.
- Backfill with native soil and press gently to remove air pockets.
- Water deeply immediately after planting.
- Apply 2–3 inches of mulch around the base, keeping mulch a few inches away from the crown.
Watering
- Water deeply 2–3 times per week during the first growing season.
- Soak the soil slowly so moisture reaches 8–12 inches deep.
- Reduce frequency once established. Mature plants tolerate moderate dry spells.
- Avoid frequent shallow watering.
Maintenance
- Cut foliage clumps back to about 3 inches above the ground in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.
- Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in late winter to early spring.
- Divide clumps every few years if the center thins out.
Container Growing
- Use a large container with drainage holes.
- Plant in high-quality potting mix.
- Containers dry out faster, so check moisture regularly during hot weather.
