AboutHolly Shrubs
The evergreen with winter interest. Hollies hold their glossy green leaves all year and most varieties carry bright red, yellow, or orange berries through winter — providing color exactly when the rest of the yard goes quiet.
Frequently asked questions
Do all holly shrubs have berries?
Most hollies need a male plant nearby for the female plant to set berries. Some self-fertile varieties exist.
How fast do holly shrubs grow?
Most hollies are slow-to-moderate growers, adding 6–12 inches per year.
Are holly shrubs deer-resistant?
Yes — most holly varieties are highly deer-resistant thanks to their prickly leaves.
